Route of crafts II.

Stations

It is suggested to travel by car on this trip because of the large distance among the places of interest.

1. Jászladány

The agriculture played and still plays an important role in the village and even the whole region’s life. In Jászladány there is an event which has been organized for several years on the second weekend of October and named by the most typical product: Jászság Onion day. On that day we can have a glimpse at the secrets of the process of onion cultivation.

2. Jászalsószentgyörgy

The second station on our route is Jászalsószentgyörgy, where we can take a look at Mrs Károly Zsigmond’s (+36 57 456 396) pieces of folk art and Judit Zsigri’s (+36 30 2382 892) goblein embroidery. The knuckle of ham cooking competition is organized in May which is also an interesting event for tourists.

3. Alattyán

The last station of the day is the visit to the birth house of Árpád Gecse. The courtyard of the Memorial house and its other building with social functions as a colony of artists where the visitor can take a short break; we can see the exhibition of the painter.

4. Jásztelek

“The good wine also needs a sign.” – says the phrase. More it needs a good cooper who caters about barrel. Mr. Gyula Kalla, the goldwreath cooper master works in Jásztelek. Worth to visit the empire of the master where we can find staves which were made decades ago. Another curiosity of the settlement is the Pörkölttorta (Cake from burnt sugar and walnut) making competition.

5. Jászfényszaru

In the past about 50 tradesmen lived in Jászfényszaru. Some of them worked alone, some of them worked together or in groups. Nowadays several craftsmen still work in the village, the most significant are: Dezső Szilágyi (+36 57 422 742) wood-carver, craftsman, Mrs. Ormai (+36 57 422 751) goblein embroidery, Nándor Rimóczi (+36 57 422 721) straw spinning, Éva Földesi (+36 70 526 9869) fire-enamel works.

Suggested visiting period

The Route can be visited throughout the year, because the visiting of handicrafts is not seasonable.

Means of transport

By car or by orgainzed small-bus.
